I experimented with different types of textures in this one.
Month: December 2018
Gardens in Savannah: Oil on 9″ x 12″ panel
I was debating on whether or not to post this piece as it is an older one that I decided to play with again. I recently visited the Monet to Matisse exhibit at the Telfair Museums Jepson Center for the Arts and was inspired by the display of work by the great French Impressionist artists. My favorite piece from the exhibit was Renoir’s “The Wave.” The rich colors and textures of this painting is mesmerizing. There is certainly more of an abstraction in his piece than some of the more traditional impressionists. Although I do not classify my work as impressionism, I think there are certain impressionistic elements within my work, and in certain pieces it is more obvious than others. I also enjoy playing with colors in the same way the impressionist did. This painting, for me, summarizes the gardens in Savannah with its rich mysterious foliage, fragrant peach colored roses, and old fountains that refuse to give in to decay and weathering.
Cherries Study on 10″x 10″ Wood Panel
Whispering Tree: Oil on 10″ x 10″ Panel
Another painting based on the Savannah Wildlife Refuge. There is one tree in particular that stands out to me each time that I visit. The changing colors during the cold months are very apparent.
Interview and Art Show at JEA Gallery
I feel awful for taking so long to post on my blog, but I have been busy preparing for my upcoming show which I will hang this afternoon. I am really excited and I hope to see some of my friends as well as some new faces! The show will be on display for the entire month of December, but the opening reception is on the 9th.
I was also invited by the Savannah radio station WRUU 107.5 FM for their segment “Art on the Air” to speak about my art and the upcoming show. You can listen to the interview here: wruu.org/broadcasts/9486
If you are in the Savannah area, please stop in!
