I was debating on whether or not to post this piece as it is an older one that I decided to play with again. I recently visited the Monet to Matisse exhibit at the Telfair Museums Jepson Center for the Arts and was inspired by the display of work by the great French Impressionist artists. My favorite piece from the exhibit was Renoir’s “The Wave.” The rich colors and textures of this painting is mesmerizing. There is certainly more of an abstraction in his piece than some of the more traditional impressionists. Although I do not classify my work as impressionism, I think there are certain impressionistic elements within my work, and in certain pieces it is more obvious than others. I also enjoy playing with colors in the same way the impressionist did. This painting, for me, summarizes the gardens in Savannah with its rich mysterious foliage, fragrant peach colored roses, and old fountains that refuse to give in to decay and weathering.
