New Beginnings: Oil on 12″ x 8″ Panel

Happy New Year!

Part of my New Year’s Resolution is to paint outdoors at least once a week. I did this one yesterday on a elongated panel. I decided on a vertical composition for this tree. As usual, I played with the texture and decided to leave the foliage loosely defined. Deciding what to paint once arriving to a sight can be challenging, but I always decide to go with the first thing that stands out to me, regardless if I find something else. I can always go back and paint the other subject. Sticking to the things we commit to and following through to the end is a good step towards growing deeper in our awareness of our surroundings. This approach also forces us to pay attention and question the things that initially capture our attention.
