I have not posted in a while as I have been super busy with homeschooling and family life. Life today is a bit hectic, as we all know. I hope everyone is safe and sound despite all of the craziness! Those of my friends not in the United States probably understand the craziness happening in this part of the world!
All in all, I feel blessed to be alive and healthy. I managed to continue forward with two shows this year–One group show in August, for the Vision for Art in Jacksonville, Florida and a solo show at the JEA gallery in Savannah, Georgia in November.
I recently have been playing around with painting on oil paper. This was painted on Arches Oil Paper, which is really one of the best oil papers I have used. It did not bend or buckle as some other papers do. It also frames well using matting or panel. The paper is really thick and no priming is required. I did add a layer of Gesso and taped to a panel to keep it from buckling.
Has any one else painted on oil paper, or has experience with painting on surfaces other than the traditional canvas?
Thanks to those who have taken the time to read my posts! I hope you stay safe!
I paint on canva paper sometimes, does that count!? What is oil paper??It’s not bad as a surface, but buckling can be a problem and I don’t use it for work I am planning to sell because I think it would be hard to deal with as far as framing is concerned! Hope you are enjoying homeschooling, Vanessa! I have homeschooled my 3 kids for the last 8 years, so, I guess you could call me an old pro, we cyberschool, though, so that’s a bit different as there is a lot of teaching support. Good to see a post from you, I fell off the blogging wagon for a bit, myself, so, if you were missing, I didn’t notice as much as I would have if I hadn’t been missing myself!! Take care!

Thanks fo the reply! Good to hear you are doing ok. Wow! Good job homeschooling. I would love to continue, but two of my boys have autism so need extra services. It is rewarding to see their progress though. I believe Canva is similar to Arches. Is it 100 percent cotton? There is a way to mount it on to a panel if you want to sell. People who paint on watercolor sell works on paper, so I don’t mind. I also add a layer of gesso on the paper while taped to a firm panel. Leave it taped all around while you paint and remove when dry. It shouldn’t buckle too much after that. I have a painting on paper framed under glass to sell. The price reflects that it is on paper. I’ve seen artist work on cardboard and all kinds of stuff with acrylics. And, I bet many of us our that way during this time. I try not to go too long without posting as I feel committed. 😏
