I hope everyone is having a Happy Easter! I wanted to paint something that showed the energy of spring. Flowers were always difficult for me to paint, but with practice I have come to understand how to look at each flower as a shape. I tried to not blend too much and use bold brush strokes in alla prima.
It is nice to be able to spread some good energy with art! I truly hope everyone is staying safe during this time.
I decided to put more work in this painting because I found my first attempt to be too dark. I wanted to add more vibrancy and clarify where the sunlight was hitting. I chose the leave the boat in the background loosely defined. Objects can be mean many things to different people. For me, boats represent some sort of journey and freedom.
Sometimes I feel like the mountains are calling me. I have been living in Savannah, GA for six years where there are no mountains or large hills. This painting took me to a beautiful place for just a moment.
Whereupon I met a light , so brilliant that the remnant hues of yellow ocher, which began as white, drifted off into the darkness and surrounded the dark olive grass. I stand among the thorns, the falling leaves, the thickets of grass. I begin to observe the colors, I can’t remember where I stand, but I stood in the shadows awakened by its presence. The thorns, the leaves, the grass, surrounded me. I did not move towards the light, as I knew that the light I saw was ever more present in the shadows.
This painting features a beautiful waterfall in a serene setting. I had so much fun painting this acrylic landscape on canvas. I always try to push myself to do something different in each painting. I find myself moving so much quicker in painting and using loose brush strokes to create interesting textures.

I started this painting by blocking in the shapes then using burnt umber for the underpainting. I have done a still-life in a while and it was challenging using acrylic instead of oil. This painting is framed and ready to go to its new home in New York. I had fun painting it and glad someone will enjoy this in their home.
This is a painting I worked on yesterday and today with acrylic. May add some more details depending on how I feel about it in the next few weeks. I was skeptical about painting the bird but I did not want to make the waterfall the focal point of my painting. I am glad that I added the bird as it adds another dimension to the painting.
