This is a copy of an Old Master’s self-portrait. I began this using the glazing method as taught at ARC, Boston. I still have two or three layers to go, but really happy with the glazing method so far. I usually work in alla prima and try to complete more during the first passes. However, working slowly step by step has taught me so much.
I have not painted with a acrylic for some time. I really like how expressive I can be because of the quick drying time. I also love the vivid colors. It is certainly different from oil which leaves a more delicate finish. I was wanting to do something bold and fun.
I wanted to create some paintings that were more abstract than some of my others! I was inspired by the beautiful hills of Tuscany!
If anyone has photos (non copyrighted) featuring hills, flowers, and beautiful landscapes that they would like me to paint! Please let me know. I love seeing what others are inspired by.

This painting is based on a recent walk my family and I took to the Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens. I love the challenge of capturing the algae in the water and was attracted to the way the sunlight hit the various sections of the wetland.

Bulls have always fascinated artists, like Picasso, and many authors, like Hemingway. Perhaps it is because we see something in ourselves in them. I’ve been thinking about painting bulls lately, no sure why. Perhaps it is my Spanish heritage, or because of the times.
This painting was inspired by a nature walk my family and I took last week. The flowers are just beginning to bloom here in Jacksonville, FL. The weather has been truly lovely!
