I started this painting a few years ago and decided to re-work some of the sky. I was inspired by William Turner’s dramatic skies. I wanted to apply the same concept with wetlands. I love the idea of creating something new and from the imagination.

Mossy Wetland: Oil on 16″ x 12″ Panel
This painting is based on a recent walk my family and I took to the Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens. I love the challenge of capturing the algae in the water and was attracted to the way the sunlight hit the various sections of the wetland.
A Walk: Acrylic on 12" x 14" Panel
This painting was inspired by a nature walk my family and I took last week. The flowers are just beginning to bloom here in Jacksonville, FL. The weather has been truly lovely!
Whispering Tree: Oil on 10″ x 10″ Panel
Another painting based on the Savannah Wildlife Refuge. There is one tree in particular that stands out to me each time that I visit. The changing colors during the cold months are very apparent.
On My Easel… Soaring Clouds: 10″ x 10″ Oil Painting
Even when using my own photographs as a reference, it seems as if the clouds depicted within a painting take its own shape and has its own movement.
Tree Study Plein Air with Acrylic
Since the weather is starting to cool down slightly, I decided to work on a painting outdoors. I have been reading Mitchell Albala’s book on landscape painting, which is an awesome book if you plan on getting into landscape painting, and tried to keep in mind some of the lessons I learned regarding simplification. I definitely like the drying time of acrylic, but it definitely lacks the luminosity of oil. I really like how acrylic keep its texture, and there is no need to bring chemicals with you. I will definitely be using acrylic for plein air studies again.
