This is a piece I began a while back and decided to touch it up today! I wanted to add more value changes. I will definitely be doing another one like this soon in a larger size. I love evening drives, especially as the sun is setting. 🙂
There is something about lemons that makes me want to paint them. I think of bright happy summers. I painted this in alla prima, wet-on-wet, and left some visible brush strokes where the light hits directly.
Hope everyone had a blessed holiday and a Happy New Year’s Day!
For the past few weeks I had been busy moving and happy to say I am settled in and ready to paint!
I decided to revisit an old photo that I painted from a while back for this painting. The other painting similar to this has sold so I don’t have a reference of my first approach. I was surprised at how much I remembered the process, although I feel this one turned out a little bit different.
As someone who grew up in an urban city in NY, I was captivated by the coastal scene and wetlands of the South. Perhaps it is because they are mysterious and full of wonder. There is beauty, but also darkness and mystery. The twisting twigs can appear chaotic and tell a story. I feel it is reflective of who I am. I can’t say this piece it is quite done, so I will leave it alone for a bit and come back to it.
Silent Stream: Oil on 18″ x 18″ CanvasUnderpainting progress…
I also decided to feature one of my older paintings from 2018. I am very passionate about the ecosystem especially since I live in a coastal area. This one was displayed at the Garibaldi Museum in Oregon for an art show dedicated to the coastal areas around the United States.
I wanted to create some paintings that were more abstract than some of my others! I was inspired by the beautiful hills of Tuscany!
If anyone has photos (non copyrighted) featuring hills, flowers, and beautiful landscapes that they would like me to paint! Please let me know. I love seeing what others are inspired by.
This painting is based on a recent walk my family and I took to the Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens. I love the challenge of capturing the algae in the water and was attracted to the way the sunlight hit the various sections of the wetland.
I decided to work on some mini paintings while I work on larger projects. This was painted from life with some creative additions. 🙂
I love the idea of creating dynamic and expressive still life paintings. Still life does not have to be still or boring. I will continue to make these mini paintings exploring colors, textures, and light.
