I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays! As the year is coming to a close, I wanted to reflect on the blessings experienced this year despite all of the negative things happening throughout the world. I am grateful for my health, family, and home. I also am thankful for all of the opportunities granted to me this year and the coming year. I think it is important to remind ourselves daily that many of the things we have are blessings and luxuries instead of focusing on what we don’t have and need. Having something as simple as clean water and food is a blessing.

This will be my last painting for the year and will be taking a break until next week or so. I painted this from life in alla prima (wet-on-wet). I will be posting a full demo of my still life in the near future. I wish everyone a safe and blessed Happy New Year!

Fruits and Teapot: Acrylic on 16″ x 16″ Canvas

I have not painted with a acrylic for some time. I really like how expressive I can be because of the quick drying time. I also love the vivid colors. It is certainly different from oil which leaves a more delicate finish. I was wanting to do something bold and fun.

There is something about lemons that makes me want to paint them. I think of bright happy summers. I painted this in alla prima, wet-on-wet, and left some visible brush strokes where the light hits directly.

Sunflowers: Oil on 8” x 8” panel

I painted this one a few months ago with acrylic. Today, I decided to go over some of the painting with oil. There are certainly more textures, and there is a bit more realism. I’m actually happy with the turnout. The combination of acrylic and oil allows me to take advantage of both mediums. Although I prefer oils, I sometimes paint my under-paintings with acrylic for faster drying time and better coverage.

I was able to find a frame for this one, so looking forward to this drying. Will also be making this available on my website soon!

Temptations: Oil on 9″ x 12″ on Arches Paper

I have not posted in a while as I have been super busy with homeschooling and family life. Life today is a bit hectic, as we all know. I hope everyone is safe and sound despite all of the craziness! Those of my friends not in the United States probably understand the craziness happening in this part of the world!

All in all, I feel blessed to be alive and healthy. I managed to continue forward with two shows this year–One group show in August, for the Vision for Art in Jacksonville, Florida and a solo show at the JEA gallery in Savannah, Georgia in November.

I recently have been playing around with painting on oil paper. This was painted on Arches Oil Paper, which is really one of the best oil papers I have used. It did not bend or buckle as some other papers do. It also frames well using matting or panel. The paper is really thick and no priming is required. I did add a layer of Gesso and taped to a panel to keep it from buckling.

Has any one else painted on oil paper, or has experience with painting on surfaces other than the traditional canvas?
